How can I prepare for my initial consultation and is there a fee?
We love to see images of your dream gown, so we strongly encourage bringing your Pinterest page, magazine clippings, and/or photo images of what inspires you to your first free no obligation consultation. After meeting in person, we will also be able to recommend a dress silhouette that is the most flattering for your body shape: https://www.theknot.com/content/wedding-dress-silhouettes
I’m definitely interested, so, what’s next?
We will sketch gown designs, collaborate and edit down your choices/ideas, consider fabric and other required materials, determine a rough timeline required to start and complete your gown, thus providing an estimate for the cost of your gown. This design consultation and estimate proposal will cost $300 upfront and is included in the total price of your custom gown should you choose to continue to move forward.
Great, I’m in like Flynn! What do you need from me to begin my custom bridal gown and what can I expect from l’atelier marla?
We will decide on a final design, schedule an appointment to take measurements (please bring comparable shoes and undergarments that you plan to wear on your wedding day), draft a pattern, create a sample gown for initial fit, and then proceed with the selection and purchase of fabric and materials to begin the construction of your custom bridal gown. At this time, 50% of your price estimate is due.
I’m anxious to see my dress, when can I stop by to see the progress you’ve made?
Based on any modifications needed from this first sample gown fitting, we will now apply those changes in the early stages of construction of your custom gown. We will then schedule a time to do an initial gown fitting, giving you an idea of what your dress will look like while walking down the aisle. At this point, limited changes to the style of your dress can be accommodated and your final gown will be based on your current size and measurements/weight.
I’m nearing crunch time, what is the current status of my dress?
Your second fitting will take place approximately 3 months before your wedding day, as we continue to fit and make necessary modifications. This is when we will apply any applique, embellishments or any purely decorative design. All remaining major modifications will be done after the second fitting. At this time, 25% of your price estimate will be due.
We’re in the homestretch with 5-6 weeks to go, when can I pick up my custom gown?
During your third, and likely final, fitting we will fine-tune any minor modifications. You can bring any accessories you plan to wear to get a preview of what you will look like on your wedding day. If no further modifications are needed, you can take your gown home with you that day, otherwise, you can expect to pick up your dress 2-3 weeks before your wedding. The remainder of your balance estimate is due at pick-up.
Can I bring guests to my consultation and fittings?
We recommended fewer (1-3) cooks in the kitchen as opinions can heat up quickly!
Can we sip champagne and snack on treats?
This is your gown for your wedding day, so proceed with caution when under the influence of other people’s recipes - or alcohol for that matter (that said, we do not allow the consumption of alcohol or food. We truly want the focus to be on you and your dream gown).
Can you incorporate a loved one’s wedding gown in to my custom design?
In most cases, yes, but we would have to see their gown first and obtain more information about the gown/fabric.
